LITERACY EMPOWERMENT ACTION PLAN ~ ACADEMIC SUCCESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

LEAP ~ ASAP

Registration is under way for LEAP’s Academic Success Assistance Program, a six week program for children in
grades 1-12 who are experiencing difficulties with their academics. Did you know that reading is involved in
every subject? Even math! Students will be provided assistance with learning in all subjects. Included is help
with homework, school projects, writing assignments, reading skills and whatever else is hindering your child's
success in school.
Schedule:   April 6 - May 20, 2010 (6 sessions)
Tuesday, 4:30-5:30pm Grades 1-3
Thursday, 4:30-5:30pm Grades 4-6
Thursday, 5:45-6:45pm Grades 7-12
          No classes 4/19-24 due to Ken-Ton Spring Break              

Place:  Center for Powerful Literacy Center - Sheridan Parkside Community Center

Fee: $120.00 Early Bird Discount $100 before April 1st.  Children attending Holmes Elementary School and
those who reside in
Sheridan Parkside Village are FREE.
A  limited number of partial scholarships are available based on financial need – call LEAP’s office for
consideration.

Registration closes one week prior the start of classes. Participants are required to pre-register by completing
a application and returning it to LEAP's office at the above address. All  fees must be paid in full by the start of
the program.

READ ~ ACADEMIC SUCCESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

READ ~ ASAP

Registration is under way for LEAP’s Read - Academic Success Assistance Program, is a reading program for
students in grades 1-6 who are experiencing difficulty with reading and writing. A balanced literacy approach
and research based strategies are used. The program will include:

Reading Assessment: Each student will receive a pre and post assessment scored by a NYS Certified Reading
Specialist
Individualized Instruction Plan: A Reading Specialist will provide a reading instruction plan based on
individual needs
Small Group Instruction: Reading Skills, Writing Skills, Creativity, Comprehension, Cooperative Learning
     
Sharing Time/Read~ASAP Final Celebration
* Practices Speaking Skills * Engages Children in Exchange of Creative Ideas
* Promotes a Sense of Community with Children & Teachers
* Final Class- A celebration with families of student accomplishments  

Schedule:  Saturday: April 10 – May 22, 2010 * Six Sessions * ~  Noon - 1:15 PM
        No class on  4/24/10 due to Spring Break

Fee: $120.00  Special Offer Discount: $100.00 for Early Bird Registration by April 1st. Priority given to returning
students.
